Solid wood vs engineered wood: what you are really paying for
By Areeba Parveen, Maison Areeba · Published · Updated

Why a solid timber frame costs more up front, how to tell the difference in a showroom, and why it usually costs less over twenty years.
Solid wood is a single material all the way through. Engineered boards are layers or particles glued under pressure and often wrapped in a thin surface layer. Both have a place, but they age differently.
How to check: look at the underside and the back panel. Solid timber shows continuous grain and similar patterns on cut edges. A board edge looks uniform, striped or crumbly. Ask the seller what the frame, legs and drawer boxes are made of - not just the top.
Our pieces are built from solid timber and hand finished. A scratch can be sanded out, a finish can be renewed, and a loose joint can be repaired - which is the real value of solid wood.
